Barista Basics - Accredition

Are you aware that Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are the only providers and assessors of Nationally Recognised Training?

Barista Basics Coffee Academy is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). We are VETAB registered and our course is VETAB accredited.

This means we have been fully audited and registered by VETAB to deliver the national competency SITHFAB012A Prepare and serve espresso coffee. As an added bonus, we also cover the  course SITXOHS002A Follow workplace hygiene procedures in Barista Basics. (Please note that these courses are the updated versions of the now-outdated THHBFB12B Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee and THHGHS01B Follow Hygiene Procedures).

Therefore when you complete Barista Basics, you leave with not one, but two Nationally Recognised Qualifications.
Why settle for "schools" that offer certified and accredited certificates/courses only to find they are merely "self accredited" or certified "in-house"

In May 2008, after years of planning, audits and site visits, the Barista Basics Coffee Academy was granted Registered Training Organisation status by the various applicable government regulatory bodies. This means that Barista Basics is fully compliant with the strict controls that are placed on its training and assessment and even without the TAFE affiliation, is able to grant Statement of Attainments relating to SITHFAB012A Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee and SITXOHS002A Follow workplace hygiene procedures. With joint RTO status and TAFE affiliation, Barista Basics has once more lifted the bar for coffee training in Australia.

Registration enables us to:
  • deliver and/or assess nationally recognised training throughout Australia
  • issue AQF qualifications which are recognised by industry and all other RTOs in Australia
  • confidently accept the qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other providers because they have been subjected to the same quality processes
  • use training products developed by industry to meet industry needs
  • have our registration and contact details listed on the National Training Information Service (NTIS) website
  • use the Nationally Recognised Training logo
  • develop partnerships with other organisations or enterprises to provide nationally recognised training and/or assessment services.
Clients benefit from:
  • national recognition of qualifications gained
  • knowing that their training is being delivered by an organisation which meets national standards
  • enhanced career prospects because the qualifications are based on identified industry needs

Barista Basics Coffee Academy is the only coffee academy that can provide you with a TAFE Certificate, a TAFE Statement of Attainment in Hospitality Operative Skills and a Transcript of Results for the TAFE-NSW module 9542B that relates to the National Competency Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee.

Barista Basics Coffee Academy is the only independent coffee training facility in Australia to carry the TAFE qualification. This means that we have been fully audited by the TAFE system, our teachers have Cert IV qualifications and our course teaches people exactly what is necessary (and a lot more!) to be competent in making coffee.

To gain the TAFE qualification from TAFE NSW - Western Institute, participants must complete the 5 hour Master Barista course. This means doing 5 hours of training.

Participants will receive advanced standing (credit) for that module in any TAFENSW course that they do in the future that contains the module eg (Cert 2,3 & 4 plus Diploma in Hospitality). They should also receive advanced standing in any course outside TAFENSW that includes the national competency SITHFAB012A.

Many barista schools have been existing in Australia and advertising that they are “accredited.” If they are not offering certification with the Nationally Recognised Training Logo and the VETAB logo, chances are, they are not accredited by the State Government. They are therefore merely accrediting themselves! These operators would therefore not be VETAB accredited and are therefore not necessarily teaching you in accordance with the industry standard established by SITHFAB012A and their instructors are not professional trainers who have a qualification that is recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework. Barista Basics Coffee Academy has been working with the TAFE NSW - Western Institute for the past four years to ensure that our course in completely in line with Prepare and serve espresso coffee – the industry standard in espresso making.
